  1. 01Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher369 · 152c

Vals pointed Fable 5.1 at an open-ended 'solve an unsolved cipher' job and it landed on Urquhart's 1653 Cyphral Distich: 64 numbers that looked unsolved for centuries because everyone assumed an external alphabet. The book is the key — index i into the i-th Proquiritation, take that word's first letter — and you get a royalist prayer for Charles II; the same idea mostly decodes the bigger Octastich, with a few pages still waiting on a physical copy. I glanced because it's persistence plus a missed clue, not a new attack.

  2. 02Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?532 · 255c

A YouTube ad dressed as an iOS storage-full system alert got reported twice; Google's review came back that it doesn't violate policy. Paste the same creative into Gemini and it flags fake OS chrome and scare-copy in seconds. 532 points because the incentive story writes itself, not because ad review grew a new architecture.

Every YouTube ad I see now is an AI-generated scam ad hawking everything from free electricity to anti-aging products to birdhouses hand-carved by an AI-generated senior citizen.

  3. 03Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs45 · 18c

Signal's Android beta is wiring actual numberless accounts — register without a SIM, zkgroup credentials, hide the phone-number settings — on an 8-year forum thread. Spam control looks like paying for a login (Play Billing in the commits) instead of burning another e164; ZKP is already how groups and donation badges work, now it's the account. I opened it because dropping the phone number is the remaining Signal wart, not because anyone posted a protocol paper.
