  1. 01Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP457 · 214c

GrapheneOS spotted Android 17 QPR1 (SDK 37.1) adding new app APIs with no AOSP drop — first time that's happened since Honeycomb. Pixel-only until QPR2 in December; QPR1 and QPR3 have been Pixel-exclusive since 16. Four hundred fifty-seven points of people deciding Google is done pretending Android is a commons.

  2. 02How OpenAI Used Its Own LLMs to Design Its Jalapeño Chip33 · 31c

IEEE Spectrum on Jalapeño, OpenAI's first accelerator: 13.4 petaflops of 4-bit, 232 GB of HBM4 at 15.4 TB/s, concept to first silicon in under 20 months with a hardware team that averaged under 100 (Broadcom still did the physical design). The number that stuck: after silicon came back in May, an MLA kernel went from 0.31% of the theoretical ceiling to 88.94% in about 40 hours of pointing internal models at the software. Thirty-three points; the thread is mostly pepper jokes.

  3. 03Cloudflare Quick Tunnels541 · 237c

Cloudflare's new try.cloudflare.com page: `cloudflared tunnel --url http://localhost:8000`, no account, outbound-only, a trycloudflare.com URL in ~3 seconds, JSON on stdout so agents don't scrape logs. Quick Tunnels shipped in 2021. Five hundred forty-one points anyway, arguing Tailscale vs ngrok vs why a five-year-old product is rank 3.

We removed anonymous usage of our product many years ago because it was far and away the largest source of abuse on our entire platform. I believe at this point that anonymous, account-less tunneling services like this are net negative for the security of the internet.
